Description
What Is Shilajit?
Shilajit is a mineral-rich resin that seeps from cracks in Himalayan rock formations above 3,000 metres, formed over thousands of years through the decomposition of plant matter under geological pressure. It is one of Ayurvedaβs most revered substances β classified as a Rasayana (rejuvenating compound) β and has been used in traditional medicine across the Indian Himalayas, Central Asia, Tibet, and Mongolia for centuries.
What Shilajit Contains
Shilajitβs primary active compound is fulvic acid β a small organic molecule shown to improve cellular nutrient uptake, reduce inflammation, and protect against oxidative stress. It also contains humic acid, dibenzo-alpha-pyrones (DBPs), and over 85 ionic trace minerals in naturally chelated form β including zinc, magnesium, iron, copper, manganese, selenium, and silica. These are significantly more bioavailable than synthetic mineral supplements.
Documented Benefits
- Energy & ATP: Fulvic acid and DBPs support mitochondrial function and cellular energy production
- Testosterone & male fertility: Clinical studies show improved testosterone levels and sperm quality with consistent use
- Cognitive function: Inhibits acetylcholinesterase β the enzyme that breaks down the neurotransmitter central to memory and focus
- Iron absorption: Fulvic acid significantly improves absorption of iron from food and supplements
- Adaptogen: Helps the body respond to physical and mental stress more efficiently
How to Use
Take a pea-sized amount (approximately 300β500mg) and dissolve in warm water, warm milk, or ghee. Do not add to boiling liquid β heat above 70Β°C degrades active compounds. Take once or twice daily, consistently for 8β12 weeks. If new to shilajit, start with a rice-grain amount for the first week.
Why Resin, Not Powder or Capsule
Shilajit resin is the purest form β minimally processed natural exudate. Powder and capsule forms are more heavily processed and may contain fillers and excipients. You can verify resin purity: pure shilajit dissolves cleanly in warm water without residue or floating particles.
